no matter what happens...

today cannot be a bad day! Okay, so that's not really true, but it has a lot going for it. Today, the new Switchfoot album is out! And tickets for their fall tour go on sale at 5pm. And tonight is the season premiere of Gilmore Girls! (If you're not excited about one or both of those events, I'm wondering what we have in common... just joshing, seriously.)

For those of you who have been blessed to have visited Omaha, I'm taking suggestions of things to do while I am there. It's going to be very weird to be there without everyone else being there. I'm very excited to go to The Foundry on Friday; I'm just sorry Azina won't be there to go with me/us.

I have practically nothing of substance to write, but I'm afraid of losing top billing in Azina's links, so I'm posting out of fear.

Please keep praying about soccer - our first game day really went well, but there may be issues that come up in the next 7 weeks that attempt to distract us from the point of the whole thing. But we have been blessed with some really great volunteers who are running things and doing an amazing job.

Pod update - we're kind of in holding right now. We're waiting to see if we are going to end up with any evacuees. If we don't, we have an alternate ending for our pod that we would need to shoot and then edit the whole thing.

Coming soon: musings on traveling solo with a 2 yr. old and a 9 month old...

Ah what power I wield. :)

But considering you posted pretty much the exact same thing I was going to post, but won't now so as not to be redundant, you don't have to worry too much about losing your top billing. For today at least . . . Though you did miss that SF will be on Conan tonight.

You need to have dad make you some Indian food while you're there. And go to Brueggers, but we already talked about that. There's always the coolest zoo on the planet, but you won't have me there to help, so you'd have to persuade one of our family members who has not fully grasped the coolness of the zoo to go. You should go to the cheap theatre if anything good is playing as the greatness of a cheap theatre should not be taken for granted. If the weather's good you should go on a picnic at Zorinksy. I'll think of more ideas if you need them.

hopefully it's not too weird that i'm posting a comment but being an omahian myself i agree with aziner when it comes to the zoo. be sure to visit the aquarium and spend a lot of time with the penquins, they're quite tranquil. Then make sure to visit the polar bears. If they are up and running they can be quite entertaining and make time fly. but of course i have great memories at the zoo since that is my husbands and my first date. ...trust me about the polar bears and penquins ;)
As for Gilmore Girls, I'm there if my husband doesn't throw up from all of the hormones.

Since it has been ten days since your last post (not that anyone is keeping track...) I am glad that you posted something before departing!!!!
I wish I was adequately versed in the Gilmore Girls....I love it when I see it, but you know how I am about TV...I just forget what day it is half the time!
I personally think you will need two days to recover from the travel and two more to gear up for the departure....just to be optimistic!
Remember that place you always talk about eating at, hmmm..., the name escapes me but it is some kind of sandwich like food. I believe it is different than the one Azina mentioned. Also, I think you should check out the coffee shop thing your home church is doing...that is all my suggestions, especially since I have been to Omaha only once, and with little recollection of its GREATNESS!

I for one say that zoos suck. We have a good zoo, but you're still paying people to get tired feet and to smell poop.

don't give in to aziner's scare tactics! if none of us blog, she can't do anything. HAHAHA! Take back the power!

Oh, no Raj - all of your comments after your degradation of the zoo are completely nullified. The zoo is easily one of the best places in Omaha; unfortunately, I don't know how I'm going to get there without assistance, and as Azina mentioned, the rest of the family are haters when it comes to the zoo. Don't worry, I will lay the guilt trip on thick - their unwillingness to go to the zoo is depriving my poor children of an invaluable learning experience. And September, the penguins are my favorite! But everyone, beware of the black puma if you go to the zoo on a weekday when no one else is around - I swear the thing was tracking me.

As for the rest of the list, Indian food and Brueggers are musts, as well as Upstream, which may be the place Ashlee was talking about, I'm not sure. And since we'll be downtown, we'll have to meander over to Ted & Wally's. And I think a picnic at Zorinsky would be a lot of fun, especially because the weather is going to be fabulous!

And for all of you who are not initiated to the coolness of Omaha, I will plan a trip. Azina will help me plan the itinerary, because there's a chance you might miss the coolness if you don't have a good guide (because real coolness must be discovered, it doesn't just jump out at you). And we'll plan a Gilmore Girls marathon to catch everyone up on that form of greatness. Let me know your availability. :) Oh, and I'm sure we can convince Alaina and Jadyn to put on some sort of ridiculously cute child performance, just for kicks.

Thanks for all of the suggestions - the suggestion box is still open, if you think of anything! I wish you were all coming with me!

First, what is a... pod? Does it hold refugees, and if so, why are you editing it?

Raj: zoos are not for tired feet and poop. I suggest you get better shoes and wear some deodorant, because the only stinky thing you're smelling is you. Zoos are resorts for animals. It's like reality TV in real life, with animals instead of the rich and famous. Every child should visit if only to inspire them to go to college. We do want them to be rich and famous and visit resorts, do we not?

Ber, if you like, when you and Azina visit Seattle, I'll take you to the Woodland Park Zoo which is the greatest Zoo in the 10 closest states (the San Diego Zoo is basically in Mexico). It has monkeys you can almost touch and a nocturnal house and a jaguar and a butterfly building AND a Kookaburra! And more! It's like a circus and a resort combined!

Galen, a pod is the next generation of tv (according to Current, anyway). It's basically a 5ish minute video produced by anyone who has something to say and aired on the Current TV network (if it's any good or if other people vote it on). And I am so up for visiting Woodland Park Zoo - you have got yourself visitors! And thank you for trying to talk some sense into Raj. Although, I'm wondering how visiting a zoo will inspire children to attend college?
