where'd that come from?

So I was watching this show last night on PBS about art. Seriously. It was one of those "by accident" things - the TV was on PBS when it was turned on, etc. etc. etc.

One of the things people might not know about me is that I love art. And it occurred to me as I was watching this show about Rembrandt - and how he was a total rebel and was sticking it to the man through his art (despite the fact that it was the man who had been paying for his art...) - that I have not been to an art museum in a really long time. I think the last time I was at an art museum was when I went to the Chihuly exhibit at the Joslyn. Anyway, that fact makes me kind of sad. Art is fascinating to me, and there's something in me that has missed that. I can't even really explain it.

So to all of those people who will be in the same city as I am at Christmas, I am going to the Joslyn. You are welcome to come with me, or you can stay at home and watch my children. :)

And yes, once again, this qualifies as one of those things that is cooler in Omaha - in my opinion, at least, the Joslyn kicks the Contemporary Art Museum's butt. And I think most of the people who would read this have not been to both museums, so that, combined with the fact that this is my blog, means that I'm right.

Count us in for the joslyn! Lindsey loved it, and we only got about a half hour there while she was in Omaha.

OK, so you have already read my original comment, but I deleted it because I thought it repetitive and ... elementary. Anyway, for the masses: these people are crazy about Omaha the way Texans are crazy about Texas. It's strange and a little bit eccentric, but it makes me want to visit. Crazy Lulla family. (even if your last name isn't Lulla anymore.)

Ironic that you would consider us in the same fanatic category as Texans...as we live in Texas and are not Texas fanatics.

I'm glad you want to visit Omaha!

And my last name might not be Lulla anymore, but I'm pretty sure the Crazy Lulla label will always fit.

I thought that I posted this comment a few weeks ago when I thought about posting it, but apparently not! I wondered what kind of art you like: ancient, renaissance-y, impressionist, or modern/interpretive. (Don't most things fall into one of these??) The big art museum in Houston has mostly the first three, but if you like modern art, you should visit the Menil.

My comment/question is: Have you been to the Menil here in Houston?

Lisa, I have not been to the Menil. I think I need to go.

As far as art goes, I really like a little bit of everything. Of the genres you mentioned, ancient art is my least favorite. I think what I like the most are mixed media pieces and sculpture, particularly more modern sculpture.

Well yay! You might like the Menil. Also, if you like sculpture you can visit the sculpture garden at the museum of fine arts (if you haven't already). They tend to have more realistic sculptures, and the Menil will have good modern sculptures (plus other media).

All in all, probably not as good as this Joslyn place, but we try! :)
